At Ser Integral: Centro Português de Mindfulness Clinical Psychology Sessions are based on therapeutic approaches that offer a holistic and integrative response to each individual. We focus on a range of psychological perspectives, including Transpersonal Psychology, Humanistic Psychology, Integral Psychology, and Existential Psychology; Third-Generation Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies, with Mindfulness and Acceptance at the core of our therapeutic approach, as well as, Trauma Therapy including Somatic Experiencing and Polivagal Theory.

 

THE IMPORTANCE OF SEEKING SUPPORT

Psychological support plays a vital role in moments when emotional rebalancing is essential for restoring health and well-being. When you feel overwhelmed by life's challenges and struggle to respond in a balanced and adaptive way, therapy can be highly beneficial. It provides you with a broader perspective on your situation, helps you identify self-imposed limitations, and guides you in finding adaptive ways to cope with these circumstances.

Working alongside your psychologist, you will have the opportunity to share your difficulties, internal conflicts, and emotional blockages, facilitating a process of emotional, mental, and physical rebalancing.

Together with your clinical psychologist, you will work on understanding, accepting, or changing aspects of your life that you wish to improve or comprehend more deeply.

WHAT IS THE FIRST STEP

The first step is to schedule an initial assessment consultation. In this session, we will get to know each other, and I will gather a brief life history, along with more detailed information about the issues you are facing and the reasons for seeking therapy. Together, we can discuss your specific needs and goals, and I will answer any questions you might have about the therapeutic process.

 

FORMAT

  • In-Person & Online

In-person consultations take place at our Porto offices, while online consultations are conducted via video conference (Zoom). Each session lasts 60 minutes.

 

WITH WHOM

Dr. Carla Martins – A Clinical Psychologist specializing in Clinical and Health Psychology, Transpersonal Psychology, and Mindfulness and Trauma-Based Therapeutic Interventions. Clinical Neuropsychologist and Certified Mindfulness (MBSR) Instructor for adults through the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, USA. Dr. Carla has been leading MBSR programs since 2007 and has been delivering MBSR online programs since 2012. She is also a Certified MBCT (Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy) teacher for clinical populations and MBCT for Life for the general population through the Oxford Mindfulness Center, University of Oxford.

Additionally, she has been teaching mindfulness to adolescents and children since 2013, through Mindful Schools and Still Quiet Place (USA). Dr. Carla is also a certified teacher of Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP) and a Mindfulness Supervisor. She has completed training in Polyvagal Theory and is undergoing training in Somatic Experiencing, a therapeutic approach for trauma treatment.

She is the author of Mindfulness-Based Interventions for Older Adults: Evidence for Practice and Mergulhar no Ser e Não Ser (more information available here).
